Africhange, the cross-border fintech platform, has partnered with Griffin, a UK-licensed bank, to introduce a new GBP Bank Account product that empowers Africans to manage and grow their money across borders with ease.

Through this partnership, Africhange users in the UK will now be able to open GBP bank accounts complete with their own unique sort code and account numbers, giving them a bank account, not just a virtual wallet. Customers can receive payments directly, hold GBP balances, and transfer funds seamlessly, all within the Africhange ecosystem.  They’ll also gain access to flexible savings options, combining the regulatory trust of a UK bank with Africhange’s speed, transparency, and emphasis on a user-first design.

“At Africhange, we don’t just understand the immigrant journey, we’ve lived it. As a founder who’s walked this path, I know that sending money home is only part of building a new life. That’s why launching our UK bank account with Griffin is personal. We’re moving beyond remittances to become a true financial partner, giving our community a trusted place to hold their balance, manage their UK finances, and earn Afripoints, all from one platform,” said David Ajala, CEO Africhange.

“Too many immigrants face unnecessary friction in accessing basic bank accounts. We’re proud to be working with Africhange in helping people access the basic financial tools they need to live and work in the UK,” comments David Jarvis, CEO Griffin.

“Partnering with Griffin marks a turning point in Africhange’s mission to empower Africans abroad with real financial tools. For the first time, our users can access true UK bank accounts, not just virtual wallets, giving them the control, trust, and functionality they need to thrive financially in a new country. This is more than a product launch; it’s a statement about what inclusive, cross-border banking should look like with further enhancements on their way,” adds Michael Price, Chief Operating Officer, Africhange UK.

Unlike typical virtual accounts that only act as proxies for transactions, the new Africhange GBP Bank Account is a dedicated bank account providing Africhange customers with their own unique Sort Code and Account Number, powered by Griffin.  This means users get all the essential benefits of banking, including:

  • Personalised sort code and account number in their name, enabling direct deposits.
  • Ability to hold and maintain GBP balances securely in their name.
  • Seamless inbound and outbound transfers via faster payments.
  • Access to a linked savings account with flexible deposits and withdrawals.
  • FSCS protection on eligible deposits held with Griffin
  • Exceptional exchange rates when converting funds or sending money home, ensuring users get more value on every transaction.
  • Responsive, human support — Africhange’s 24/7 customer care team available via chat, email, or phone, offering real assistance.
  • Future debit card access (physical and virtual) for everyday spending and withdrawal (coming in 2026).
  • Ability to earn cash rewards on balances (coming soon) — turning everyday saving into a rewarding experience.
