Worldline, a European leader in payment services, has enabled its first Wero online payment transaction in Belgium, the second European nation to enable eCommerce payments after Germany. This historic moment was done for the Belgian Red Cross-Flanders (Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen) following the announcement of Wero’s eCommerce launch in the country.

Today, Joachim Goyvaerts, CEO of Worldline Belgium, was the first to officially use Wero for an online transaction, the 100% European digital payments method through Worldline in Belgium, when he donated to the Flemish Red Cross (Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen). Many retailers have already stated their intention to activate Wero as an e-commerce payment solution on their platforms. The Belgian Red Cross-Flanders (Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen) is the first organisation supported by Worldline to integrate and use the pan-European payment solution.

“Our humanitarian work in Flanders, in Belgium and across the world is only possible thanks to the people who support us. Our goal is to help people as fast and proficient as possible, fast and reliable systems are therefore important to us.” says Vincent Verbeecke, spokesperson for the Belgian Red Cross-Flanders (Rode Kruis-Vlaanderen)

“Our priority is to make new payment methods easy to activate and reliable at scale. With Wero for e-commerce, Worldline strengthens its digital payments proposition and enables merchants to offer European shoppers a seamless checkout experience, without additional set-up or operational effort. Merchants can deploy Wero easily while keeping day-to-day operations running as usual, with immediate confirmation of successful payments and simplified reconciliation. We’re proud to have enabled the first Belgian Wero online payment for the Red Cross.” declares Joachim Goyvaerts, CEO of Worldline Belgium.

The news comes on the heels of the EPI (the European Payments Initiative)’s press conference earlier this morning where it officially launched Wero for e-commerce in Belgium. More information about this event can be found via this link.
