Taurus Integrates Tokenization and Custody Platforms With Swift’s Blockchain Ledger
Digital asset infrastructure provider Taurus has integrated its tokenization and custody platforms with Swift’s blockchain-based ledger, marking another step toward enabling cross-border payments using bank-issued tokenized deposits.
Taurus said the integration will allow clients to connect their existing digital asset infrastructure directly to Swift’s ledger. The first client integrations are expected to go live within days, while the first distributed ledger technology transactions facilitated through Taurus’ platforms are expected within weeks.
The integration forms part of a broader effort by Swift and participating financial institutions to enable tokenized deposits to be used for international payments. Swift’s ledger is designed to coordinate transactions between banks and other institutions before final settlement through existing financial infrastructure, including real-time gross settlement systems.
Swift announced in July that its ledger was ready for initial use, with 17 banks across six continents preparing to pilot live transactions involving tokenized deposits. Standard Chartered and HSBC have since completed the first live cross-border transaction on the ledger, linking their separate tokenized deposit systems.
Swift describes the ledger as an orchestration layer designed to support round-the-clock cross-border payments using tokenized deposits held on participating banks’ balance sheets. Rather than replacing existing settlement systems, the ledger is intended to coordinate payment movements between institutions while relying on established arrangements for final settlement.
The Taurus integration provides another early implementation of Swift’s blockchain-based infrastructure as banks and digital asset providers explore how tokenized bank deposits can move across institutions and financial networks. The development highlights the growing push to combine blockchain-based payment coordination with the established global banking infrastructure.
