PayPal Unveils Contactless Mobile Wallet in Germany
PayPal has launched a contactless payment feature in Germany, marking a global first for the company. Available through the latest version of the PayPal app, the feature allows users to make in-store purchases with a simple tap of their smartphone at any retailer that accepts Mastercard contactless payments.
For the first time in Europe, PayPal is also extending its Pay Later service to brick-and-mortar stores in Germany. Through the Ratenzahlung To Go offering, customers can split their in-store purchases into instalments of 3, 6, 12, or 24 months.
Additionally, users can activate special offers within the app to earn cashback when paying contactlessly at participating German retailers.
Joerg Kablitz, Managing Director of PayPal Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, commented:
“Cash will always have a place, but we recognize that both consumers and businesses are increasingly open to modern, digital payment options. Simply put, we believe PayPal offers a better alternative to cash. Our app makes it simple and secure to pay in stores, provides flexible payment choices, and even rewards users with cashback.”
