Pix, The Brazilian Payment Giant, Lands In Europe Thanks To Wipay And PagBrasil
Wipay, the Spanish company specialized in payment technology and leader in acquiring thanks to the innovation in its redefinition of the transactional experience, has announced the arrival of PIX in Europe, the largest instant payment system in Brazil, and it does so hand in hand with PagBrasil. This strategic partnership aims to enhance and make transactions more convenient and economical for Brazilian tourists, offering a unique experience during their stay here.
The countries where payment by credit card will start to be in force are PIX, this year, will be Spain & Portugal. The first pilot of this innovative initiative will be implemented in the vending machines of Barcelona Airport, where visitors will be able to make instant, fast and secure payments by scanning a QR code thanks to Wipay’s technology and its integration with PagBrasil’s solution.
The landing of Pix in Europe, starting with Spain and Portugal, not only represents a significant advance in payment technology, but also a strengthening of ties between Europe and Brazil.

Focusing specifically on Spain, Brazilian tourism has grown significantly in recent years following COVID-19. In 2023, more than 9.3 million international tourists were received in the first five months, representing an increase of 11.5% compared to the previous year.
This growth is expected to continue, with Brazilian tourists playing a crucial role in boosting the tourism sector, with 564,860 Brazilian tourists arriving in Spain in 2023. Total tourist spending also increased, reaching €11,687 million in May 2024, up 19.7% on the previous year. The introduction of Pix promises to further facilitate this exchange, benefiting tourists and local commerce.
The implementation of Pix through Wipay not only has economic benefits, but also social ones. Facilitating transactions for Brazilian tourists promotes greater integration and comfort for them when choosing a destination to travel to.
The initial pilot at Barcelona Airport is just the beginning. Wipay and PagBrasil have ambitious plans to expand this technology to other tourist and commercial locations in Europe.
