Worldline, a European leader in payment services, today becomes one of the first in Europe to launch a payment handler for the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard for agentic commerce co-developed by Google and industry partners. The integration enables merchants to accept AI-initiated purchases across multiple platforms with a unified setup.

Agentic commerce is reshaping how customers buy. By 2030, transactions through AI agents could reach $3–5 trillion1. Merchants who embrace this shift early capture significant competitive advantage but only if payment infrastructure keeps pace.

Stijn Gasthuys, Head of Global Commerce & CEO of Global Collect (Worldline Group), said: “As AI starts to play a bigger role in how consumers discover and buy products, merchants are looking for ways to capture these new opportunities without adding complexity to their operations. Our role is to make that possible through payment capabilities they already know and trust.”

UCP provides a common language that enables AI agents to discover products and execute purchases directly. Worldline’s new capability enables merchants to declare their payment configuration once and accept card payments, mobile wallets, and European payment methods across any UCP-connected AI platform.

As agentic commerce grows, merchants will support new AI surfaces without rework or duplicate payment integrations. This payment handleris available with Worldline’s cross-border payment platform Global Collect.

Gertjan Dewaele, VP Product & Technology at Worldline Global Commerce, commented: “With the Worldline Global Collect Payment Handler, we have built a universal adaptor on UCP that securely bridges agentic commerce platforms and merchant backends, enabling merchants to prepare for agentic commerce and scale across multiple platforms tomorrow.”
